THE exploits of a young Melksham boy have not gone unnoticed after he has been nominated for a national charity award thanks to his fundraising efforts for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Ciaran Hanks, of Hazelwood Road, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Young Fundraiser category in the MS Society Awards.
The 12-year-old Melksham Oak pupil, who was over the moon at the nomination, raised more than £500 for the charity last year by swimming the equivalent length of Loch Ness, 1,454 lengths of a 25m pool.
His mother Caroline said: “All of us were blown away by the news. He never expected anything like this - we are so proud of him.
“Not long ago he could struggled doing a length of the pool and then he did this. He also raised over £700 in a previous swim for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. He cannot wait for the event.”
The awards presentation will take place at County Hall in London on Friday, April 27.
