MORE than 40 community organisations, including scouts in the newly-formed Shaw, Whitley & Atworth Scouts Group, have received council cash to help them.

Grants totalling £17,350 were awarded at Melksham Without parish council’s annual parish meeting at Shaw Village Hall, on Monday.

The hall was packed as villagers attended the meeting to hear the council’s reports on the past 12 months and its plans for the future.

Chairman Richard Wood said: “There was a great turnout of over 60 people, with lots of interested residents and a really warm, positive atmosphere.

“Such great dedication is shown from so many different volunteers representing a huge range of community groups working hard in all the various communities.”

The grant cheques were presented to community groups, including village halls, sports clubs, youth organisations, health and wellbeing support groups and community action groups.
