POLICE are appealing for help in solving a cigarette theft from the Co-op store in Pembroke Road, Melksham, between 1pm and 1.15pm on Thursday.
Two men carried out a distraction theft at the store, with one diverting the cashier's attention, while the other stole two bags full of cigarettes and tobacco from behind the till.
A witness who saw the second man, who was wearing a green coat and red hat, leave the shop gave chase on foot but lost sight of him in Somerset Crescent.
Police are wanting any witnesses to the crime to come forward, in particular a woman seen in the Somerset Crescent area by a white car.
If anyone is offered cheap cigarettes or who saw the suspects at any point should contact PC Kane Fulbrook-Smith at Trowbridge police on 0845 498 7000.
