12:15pm Thursday 21st February 2008 in Melksham By Charley Morgan
POLICE surrounded an electricity sub-station in Melksham in the early hours of Tuesday morning after an intruder was seen there.
A man was spotted on motion-sensitive CCTV at the Southern Electric site in Spa Road.
Police surrounded the site so when the man tried to escape by going through the back gardens of nearby houses, police dog handlers and other officers were waiting for him.
PC Kevin Harmsworth said: "I would like to express my thanks to several members of the public, who despite it being the early hours of the morning, assisted police by letting officers into their home and by indicating the male's direction of travel as he was trying to get away."
*A 39-year-old man has been arrested and charged with being found on enclosed premises and taking a vehicle without consent and has been released on bail pending further investigation.
