MORE than £10,000 worth of cigarettes were stolen in a raid on an Atworth petrol station on Monday.
Shortly after midnight, police were alerted when the alarm went off at the Bear Garage on Bath Road. On arriving at the scene officers found a window had been smashed, and cigarettes and other items of stock removed.
A witness saw a vehicle, thought to be a Subaru Impreza, driving away from the garage around the time of the break in. Diana Norris, owner of the Bear Garage said: "When someone is determined to break in there is not a lot you can do to prevent it.
"We are putting bars on the windows and our alarm system works very well, but there is only so much you can do. "It caused a lot of inconvenience because I couldn't open up on Monday until we had cleared up and the police had carried out a fingerprint search."
Anybody with information about the incident should contact the police.
