Manslaughter trial delayed after juror's injury

The trial of a Melksham man  charged with the manslaughter of Trowbridge builder Adrian Cooksey will resume tomorrow.

The trial of Richard Elmes, 51, of Semington Road, Melksham, was due to recommence today after the weekend break.

However, after a juror suffered an injury on the way to to Bristol Crown Court this morning, it has been adjourned until tomorrow.

Mr Cooksey, 50, was found unconscious in Spa Road, Melksham, in the early hours of March 8, 2009 and later died in hospital from head injuries.

Elmes is accused of punching him, causing him to fall and strike his head on the floor.

He has admitted a count of perjury, conceding he lied about he whereabouts on the night Mr Cooksey was assaulted in the 2010 trial of Thomas Minshull, who was acquitted of manslaughter.

Elmes denies manslaughter.
