MP Andrew Murrison toured the site of a new housing development in Paxcroft Mead last Friday. His visit to Castle Mead, being developed by Persimmon Homes, coincided with the completion of the first 12 of Selwood Housing’s properties on the site.

They consist of nine two-bedroom homes and three three-bedroom homes with Mr Murrison being shown around the streets of the new development.

He said: “I’m very pleased to see the latest stage of this project as there is a large need for more housing in the area. I’m delighted to see these high quality houses at this new development.

“I’ve been to see a few Selwood sites in the past and I’m sure these homes will again be of the same high standard that we’ve come to expect from them.”

When complete the Castle Mead site will include a range of affordable housing.

Barry Hughes, Chief Executive of Selwood Housing: “We are delighted to be working with Persimmon on this scheme, we have 81 homes coming on the site and this will help go a long way towards our aim of delivering 250 new homes in the area over the next three years.”

Workmen are still currently at the site in Leap Gate and Mr Murrison expressed his enthusiasm for seeing the site fully completed with families living in the properties.

Paul Walsh, development director of Selwood Housing, said: “We were very happy to have the first 12 completed last week and we are currently working on the next phase of 15 homes and looking forward to them being finished with the aim of the whole site being completed by 2014.”
