Plan to change A361 speed limit

Wiltshire Council plans to reduce the speed limit on the A361 near Seend.

It wants to reduce the limit from 60mph to 50mph on the stretch between the bottom of Caen Hill and Seend Fork, where there have been numerous collisions including fatalities.

It also plans to reduce the limit from 60mph to 50mph on the A361 on the western side of Seend to Littleton roundabout near Semington.

The council advertised the proposals recently and seven letters of objection were received, with four letters of support.

Those who objected also called for the speed limit to be reduced along the A361 Caen Hill dual carriageway.

But highway officers at Wiltshire Council said it was not appropriate to reduce the limit on Caen Hill.

Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member Cllr Dick Tonge has decided to implement the reduced speed limits. Unless councillors ‘call in’ the decision by today, it will take effect from tomorrow.
