Motorcyclist hurt in collision with car

A motorcyclist collided with the side of a car today at about 8.30pm in Yarnbrook, near Westbury.

The incident occurred on the roundabout next to the Platinum Vauxhall garage when a motorcyclist, travelling from Trowbridge towards Westbury, was in collision with a woman in a Ford Fiesta.

The woman, thought to be 84, was driving from Yarnbrook in the direction of North Bradley when the motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was in collision with the side of the car.

The crash caused the woman driver to veer off the road and hit a lamp post. Police and ambulance crews arrived at the scene shortly after and both the elderlywoman and the man were taken to hospital.

The incident came just hours after another motorcyclist had a lucky escape at The Longs Arms roundabout, just 100 yards down the road at 11.06am.

The motorcyclist was in collision with a lorry which pushed him and his bike for 60 metres before stopping, after cars travelling towards Westbury repeatedly flashed the driver.

The spelling of crash is unchanged. Any fule kno the difference between spelling and mistyping.
Mistyping to the extent of WIlTS TIMEs is quite unusual however.

In your report, one of those involved was 'thought to be' 84.
Is it necessary to then describe her transportation to hospital as that of an elderly woman.

"thought to be 84"... Is this just a guess at her age?

I find it amusing that, according to the WT, this particular accident happened at "about 8.30pm", and yet the other incident referred to happened at "11.06am".

I know the man involved in this RTC, his most serious injury was a broken collar bone so he was lucky though not as lucky as that other biker who ended up with his machine trapped under the lorry at Yarnbrook. The woman driver was indeed 84 y.o. and, yes, it was her fault as she pulled out onto the roundabout as the bike was negotiating it. However she has actually ended up with more injuries than the bike rider (unusual of course in a bike vs. car RTC) so please bear that in mind if you post on this thread.

First, A Frau would be eine dumme Fahrerin, (feminine endings). Grammar lesson apart, you are right, it is very rare indeed that the car driver comes off worse. Remember in a car you are strapped in (or should be!), you have airbags, the vehicle is on 4 wheels and not easy to tip over, and you have the bodywork around you. A biker has none of these. Worst of all are the idiots on quad-bikes, these have all the faults of bikes but also lack the manoeuverability and accelaration which often get a bike out of dodgy situations.
