The offices of a disability charity in Trowbridge have been brightened up, with the unveiling of a specially-commissioned painting.

The artwork was officially handed over to Shaw Trust by artist Kevin James, in a ceremony on Tuesday, and will hang in the trust’s national headquarters on the White Horse Business Park.

The work, New Directions, was commissioned for the trust’s 30th anniversary celebration, with directors buying it using their own money.

At the request of Mr James, proceeds will be donated to Mike Taylor and his wife, who are both registered blind and have just had their first child.

Shaw Trust chief executive Roy O’Shaugnessy said: “We were looking for a painting that would represent our 30-year history and look forward to the next 30 years.

“We are really proud to be able to display this artwork here in our head office. Both Kevin and Mike are truly inspirational employees.”

Mr James, who has been with the trust for seven years, said: “They took me under their wing and helped me from a black place.”

The £250 from the painting has been used to buy an adjustable cot, a chair and a talking thermometer for baby Jade, born 10 weeks ago.

New father Mr Taylor said: “We have had the same learning curve that any new parent would.

“We just have to adapt to new ways of doing things.”
