The building work at Trowbridge’s new £3.7million cinema is finished, with staff now putting the finishing touches to its interior.

The seven-screen Odeon, at the new St Stephens Place Leisure Park, is set to open on October 25 and manager Nick Price is now putting plans in place for a launch party.

Mr Price, who is moving to Hilperton after managing a cinema in Wales, said: “It is amazing how much the cinema has come on even in the last week or so.

“There’s a real buzz and this is the first time that the staff have been able to come inside and have a look – we can’t wait to get going.”

The cinema has seven state-of-the-art unmanned digital projectors that have been installed and are being overseen by Peter Grimes, who trained as an engineer at Westinghouse, in Chippenham, during the 1970s.

Cinema service engineer Mr Grimes, who lives in Norfolk, said: “This development is going be a great bonus for the town. Having been familiar with the area during the 1970s it is amazing seeing how it has changed and continues to change.”

Before the cinema was finished the Odeon’s 30 staff were training at the branch in Bath and holding team bonding sessions at Trowbridge Civic Centre.

They will be supporting Trowbridge Carnival, which runs in the town centre from 7pm tomorrow, with a team dressed as their favourite film characters giving out discount vouchers.

When completed, the £17m leisure park will have six restaurants and an 80-bed Premier Inn in addition to the cinema, where there is also a Costa Coffee.

So far, a Nando’s, expected to open at the start of November, and a Prezzo, which is due to open on December 12, have been announced, with the remaining four occupants still unknown.

Prezzo chief executive Jonathan Kaye said: “We are looking forward to opening our new restaurant in Trowbridge.

“We believe that it will appeal to people of all ages and be an asset to the town’s social scene.”

Prezzo will be hiring 20 staff as part of their new £500,000 store.
