Two St John Ambulance medals with great sentimental value were taken during a burglary at a Trowbridge home.

The offenders gained entry by using a stone garden ornament to smash a rear kitchen window of a house in Silver Street Lane at some point between 10.15am and 5.15pm on Sunday, December 22.

Once inside they emptied jewellery boxes from a bedroom drawer and helped themselves to a number of rings, bracelets, old coins and the two medals.

Many of the items taken were either inherited or given as gifts and hold a great deal of sentimental value for the victims.

The medals were a long service medal and a Serving Sister of the Order medal.

House to house enquiries have proved negative and police now want to hear from anyone with any information about either the incident itself or any of the items taken.

People are reminded that to a buy an item they believe is stolen is a crime in itself and that it has to be considered where goods have come from.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 2598 Emma King at Trowbridge Police Station on 101.

Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
