Trowbridge Carnival concern as plea goes out for new recruits
The future of Trowbridge Carnival could be under threat if its committee doesn’t find more members.
The organisers of the annual procession, which has been held for over 70 years, are appealing for a helping hand to plan and steward the event as well as their other activities which take place throughout the year.
Trowbridge Carnival Committee, which has seven members, meets at Roundstone School monthly on every third Wednesday at 7pm. Other than the carnival, the committee organise the town’s soapbox derby, country fayre and a bowls competition.
Maryrose Mantle, carnival committee chairman, said: “For one reason and another some people haven’t been able to dedicate as much time as in the past.
"But I’m sure there’s people out there with some really good ideas for the carnival and for other events in Trowbridge who we’d love to hear from.
“The carnival has been growing year after year and there would be a danger that if we didn’t get more members the event would have to stop or be smaller and not of the same high quality.”
The carnival procession, which will be taking place on October 18, needs around 40 volunteers stewards for it to run safely.
Mrs Mantle said that she’d also welcome more stewards, if people didn’t want to be fully fledged committee members, to help with the smooth running of the carnival and the other events.
Mrs Mantle said: “We are looking for enthusiastic people who enjoy having fun and have a passion for Trowbridge.”
Anyone who wishes to volunteer can call Mrs Mantle on 07866 698278 or write to her address in 40 Bellefield Crescent, Trowbridge, BA14 8SR.
