Trowbridge Rugby Club head coach Steve Ojomoh believes his players will head to Twickenham today in no doubt about what their achievements mean to the town.

Ojomoh reckons the club have pulled off a masterstroke by ensuring that his squad will mingle together with supporters at Doric Park before boarding the one of the 15 coaches heading to the home of English rugby at 10am for their RFU Intermediate Cup final against Staffordshire side Leek, kick off 3pm.

The former Bath and England flanker made clear his desire to make the town proud of their rugby club from his earliest days in the job in the summer of 2012 and says players and coaches will see the fruits of their labours so far when they gather before setting off.

“It’s just incredible and what I’m really pleased about is that virtually all the buses (carrying team and supporters) are leaving together from the club,’’ he said.

“I think that’s wonderful because I want the players to understand what it means to people and the support they will have from the town. If they weren’t aware of it before, they will get a sense of it then.

“I’m pleased they are sharing that experience. It would be so easy for us to go off and get cocooned in a hotel or something like that beforehand. But this way, it gives the guys a real sense of what they are in for.’’

Ojomoh is well aware of the benefits huge support can bring from his playing days with both Bath and Gloucester and he added: “It’s amazing. We’re talking about 14 or 15 buses heading up there (Twickenham) and then you’ll have people making their own way too.

“Everyone is talking about it. I’ve spoken to the chief executive of Bath about the support they have and how much of it comes from Wiltshire and everything about Trowbridge, the club and the town, reminds me of Gloucester.

“One of the things I really felt (after becoming head coach) was that the town should have a rugby club they are proud of.

“There should be that buzz, that vibe, because all these guys (the players) live locally. You always get people who move away, go to university or whatever, but they always come back.’’
