A charity which has struggled to get outside support for fundraising is being helped by the Red Admiral pub in Hilperton with a series of fun days over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

West Wilts Special Needs Activity Scheme is a two-week summer play plan for children with special needs who live or go to school in West Wiltshire. It needs to raise £15,000 annually to provide activities such as art and craft, music, and messy play, visits from entertainers and magicians, and day trips out.

Red Admiral barmaid Danielle Humphries came up with the idea of the fun days to try and raise funds and awareness because her brother James is deputy co-ordinator and administrator of the charity.

Miss Humphries, 26, said: “ We are trying to get local people involved and put the pub back into the community.

“My brother was over the moon as they have struggled to get someone to do fundraising.”

The weekend starts on Friday at 6pm with a barbecue, and from midday on Saturday there will be a bouncy castle, charity car wash, face painting and giant garden games.

On Sunday there is live snail racing at 4pm and on Bank Holiday Monday there’s group competitions and a games tournament throughout the day, with a raffle at 8pm.

Mr Humphries, 24, said: “We didn’t have fundraising lined up for the year, so this will go towards day trips, coaches and wages.”
