A 32-year-old woman is in a “very serious” condition after being struck by a car in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened just after 2.20am on the A361 near Hilperton, Trowbridge.
It is believed a grey Audi A3 hit the woman as she was walking along the roadside with her male partner, who is also 32 and is from Trowbridge.
The woman suffered a serious head injury and is being treated at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
The 22-year-old driver, from Melksham, was understood to have stopped at the scene but left before police arrived.
He later went to Melksham police station to report the incident and has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He is currently being detained there.
Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information should call 101.
