Mexican chain restaurant Chiquito became the latest addition to St Stephen’s Place Leisure Park on Friday, with staff celebrating its opening at the £17m complex in Trowbridge.

Chiquito, which has created 50 jobs in Trowbridge, serves everything from fajitas and beef burgers to nachos and packed burritos, while there is also an extensive drinks menu with a range of cocktails.

The restaurant also welcomed a special visitor yesterday when a 100-year-old celebrating her birthday with family decided to try the menu before going on holiday to Mexico.

Catherine Gray, general manager at Chiquito Trowbridge, said: “They just popped in to try the food we had to offer as she said she is going to Mexico on holiday in a couple of weeks.

“She really enjoyed her meal with her family and wore a sombrero pretty much from start to finish. We gave her a bottle of sparkling Zinfandel to celebrate.

“We already feel part of the community and it’s great to be finally open.

"All the feedback we have had has been really positive and people seem to really love it as it’s a bit different.

“People are coming in and being adventurous and trying new things. The majority of our staff are local as well, so there is a really good atmosphere in the restaurant.”

The leisure park, which was developed by Legal & General and opened in November last year, won the Town Enhancement Award at Trowbridge’s annual Civic and Town Enhancement Awards ceremony.

It includes a seven-screen Odeon multiplex cinema, 80-bed Premier Inn and seven restaurants let to popular family-orientated chains Frankie & Bennys, Nandos, Prezzo and Deans Diner.

Chiquito Trowbridge will be open Monday to Saturday, 9am-11pm, and on Sundays from 9am-10.30pm.
