Young entrepreneurs took part in Trowbridge Town Team’s first Teenage Market outside the Town Hall on Saturday, running stalls selling products they had crafted themselves.

The market, which was for young people aged from 13 to 19, included everything from handmade jewellery and gifts to accessories, digital art and craft items.

Trowbridge Town Team partnered with Trowbridge Arts Festival for the market, with a full programme of events in the town hall including circus skills, singers, dancers and a host of art projects.

Among the stallholders taking part was Hannah McBride, 17, of Westbury, who makes Steampunk and Victorian-inspired jewellery.

The Trowbridge College student said: “The market has been a really good experience and people have been really positive about the style of my jewellery. It’s been really encouraging and I would definitely do it again.”

Alyssa Maxwell-Healey, 13, from Warminster, took part under the name Bejewelled, selling handmade jewellery.

She said: “It’s been a really good experience and I have had lots of lovely comments.”

Trowbridge Town Team was planning on awarding the best stallholder a prize but group chairman David Baker said the standard was so high that there will now be three prizes of £100.

The additional £200 was sponsored by Castle Place Shopping Precinct, with all the winners due to be revealed at a celebration and awards evening in Trowbridge early next year.

Project co-ordinator Ellie Gill said: “We had 13 stallholders and it has worked really well. I’m really impressed with the commitment they have shown.

“We have already had people coming up to us and asking when the next market will be.”
