Mark La Turner and his wife Laura began organising the Ashton Common car boot sale in 2008 and since then they have raised £32,121 for the lifesaving work of Cancer Research UK. This year alone they have helped to raise £7,316.

Every Sunday from March to October the couple and a team of reliable helpers set up the car boot sale.

Sellers are able to set up a pitch at no fixed charge, but are instead encouraged to make a donation to the charity. Entry fees of £1 a person cover the costs of the sale.

Donations to the charity are collected by volunteers of the local Trowbridge fundraising committee.

Maria Gomez, Cancer Research UK’s local fundraising manager for Wiltshire, said: “We are very grateful to Mark and his team for helping us to raise such a considerable amount of money.

“In six years more than £32,000 has been collected from the pitchers which is tremendous. We are extremely grateful for their continued support.”

Ms Gomez added: “Cancer Research UK has made enormous progress in the fight against cancer and continues to do so.

“However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research.”
