The annual Trowbridge fireworks went off with a bang on Bonfire Night, with organisers saying that record numbers turned up to enjoy the show.

Organised by The Rotary Club of Bradford on Avon, the event took place at Greenhill Field Events site in Southwick on Wednesday evening and thousands of youngsters and their parents turned out to watch the display.

The event also had live music from local classic rock band Purple Fish, as well as a bonfire, fairground amusements, burger bars and refreshments.

Martin Coles, who is head of the committee that organises the fireworks, said: “It went extremely well and the amount of people coming to the event was such that we had to delay the fireworks slightly to get the traffic in.

“It was a really great evening and while we don’t have the official numbers yet, as far as we can tell there were a record number of people this year. Everyone seemed very pleased with the display and enjoyed the bonfire.

“We are very grateful to those in the town that help us sell tickets in advance and all of the committee have put an amazing amount of work into make it successful. The hard work is all worth it though when you see everyone enjoying themselves.”
