A Trowbridge teenager is aiming for the top after receiving expert advice from a host of the UK’s top female executives at Girlguiding’s first ever Camp CEO.

Hannah Gale, 16, a member of the 1st Studley (St John’s) Guides, was one of 20 girls mentored by leading female executives during the unique girls-only camp held in Bedfordshire last week.

The new project, supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, was launched by charity Girlguiding to encourage girls and young women to aim for the top.

Hannah was coached by senior female executives on all aspects of careers – from interview techniques and networking skills to overcoming challenges and building confidence.

The Clarendon Academy pupil said: “It’s been great to meet all the other girls and make friends and also to meet the CEOs and get advice.

“The top tip I’ve learned is just to be yourself and don’t try to please anyone, do what you’re comfortable with.

“Guiding is extraordinary and you can make a positive difference locally or worldwide. You get the chance to travel the world and meet new people. The special thing about Girlguiding is that every single member’s voice is heard.”

Hannah was also given one-to-one mentoring by Caroline White, CEO of the Youth Hostel Association, during the camp, while the professionals had an opportunity to take part in Girlguiding activities such as archery and raft-building.

Camp CEO was able to go ahead thanks to a boost of £100,000 from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery, which supports charities and good causes across the UK and globally.

Jo Bucci, managing director of People’s Postcode Lottery and Camp CEO mentor, said: “I’m thrilled that players of Peoples Postcode Lottery have supported this inspiring programme, enabling these ambitious young women to boost their skills and confidence as they take their first steps on the career ladder.”
