Pupils at Grove School in Trowbridge had a taste of what life was like in the First World War last week when Trowbridge Museum organised a two-day workshop. at the school.

Education and learning officer David Birks took the museum’s exhibition on the Great War to the school last Thursday and Friday (November 6 and 7) and carried out workshops with each of the year groups.

The boys were also given an opportunity to find out about how men enlisted for the army and went through a practice medical, while the girls were taught about what life was like for women during the war.

The workshops were in preparation for a whole-school writing event this week in which each year group took part in tasks such as creating an enlisting poster, looking at Terry Deary’s book War Games and writing diary excerpts.
