Pupils from St Augustine’s Catholic College in Trowbridge visited the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, joining hundreds of other young singers in a performance of Handel’s Messiah.

The Scratch Youth Messiah was part of Messiah from Scratch, which has been performed by the Really Big Chorus at the London venue in the run-up to Christmas every year since 1974.

Last year saw the launch of the Really Big Youth Chorus, comprising more than 1,000 singers under the age of 25, from schools around the country.

St Augustine’s was one of the schools involved in this year’s event.

All money raised from programme sales, advertising and sponsorship at the concert was donated to WaterAid.

St Augustine’s director of music Richard O’Mahony took 100 of his pupils along for the performance.

Sixth former Merryn Phillips said: “It was a great experience. Singing with such a large choir was good fun.

“The Royal Albert Hall was huge. We all enjoyed it.”
