Trowbridge couple Dave and Leoly Wyatt raised over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through their annual Christmas party on Saturday at Westwood Social Club.

The event now in its third year, was first organised by the couple after Mrs Wyatt, 42, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. She has since been given the all-clear, but wanted to raise money for charity to give something back.

In previous years, the event has raised hundreds of pounds for Macmillan, but this year Mr and Mrs Wyatt raised more than £1,000 through the party and grand raffle.

Mr Wyatt, 53, said: “The first party was so successful, we have continued it ever since. This year we had a Christmas party and grand raffle, as well as a hog roast, and we are already booked for next year. We had another great turnout and it’s fantastic that we were able to raise £1,000.

“The atmosphere on the night was great and it was a really lovely event. There were some excellent prizes in the raffle and everyone had lots of fun. I want to thank everyone who helped out.”

Mr and Mrs Wyatt were not the only people raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support at the weekend: Zoe Grant organised a Christmas Bazaar at The Farmhouse in Southwick on Sunday.

She also raised just over £1,000 by the event taking place for a second year. The money was split between Macmillan and maintaining the Southwick defibrillator.

Mrs Grant said: “It started off as just a cake sale for Macmillan last year, but it quickly turned into a village Christmas bazaar. We raised £800 last year, but this year we made an amazing £1,003.

“There were 14 stalls, a raffle and Father Christmas and everyone had a great time. People were more aware of it this year and I have to thank Wilkinsons in Trowbridge for donating selection boxes for Santa to give children.

“I also want to thank all my family for their help as I couldn’t do it without them and everyone at The Farmhouse, who were so supportive.

“The stallholders have already booked again for next year, which is great.”
