Foolish teenagers who threw objects at a fire engine from the top of a multi-storey car park in Trowbridge, could have caused “real damage” say firefighters.

A town crew had been sent to Knightstone Court sheltered housing, next to the St Stephen’s Place car park, at about 5.30pm last Thursday, after a report that a resident was stuck in a lift.

Officers parked their pump vehicle at the back of the multi-storey, but while they were dealing with the lift problem, three teenagers threw objects down from the top of the car park.

A Twitter message put on the official @Trow_Fire_Stn feed said: “Parents: Do you know where your kids are? Because I don’t appreciate objects being thrown off the multi-storey car park at my crew or our truck.”

Trowbridge watch station manager Guy Tadman said: “While we were dealing with the incident, children were throwing objects at the pump.

“We want to put a message out there that any objects, no matter how big or small, when thrown from height could do some real damage. Please think about what you are doing, as the actions you are taking could have bigger consequences.

“We spoke to them and told them what they were doing was stupid. We are not sure what they were throwing, but even a 10p dropped from height could cause serious injuries if it hits someone.

“They didn’t cause any obvious damage to the vehicle and the officers were sitting in the pump when the objects were thrown, but it was an incredibly stupid thing for them to do.”
