Pink was the colour of the day at Trowbridge Rugby Club on Saturday, for a fundraising event held in memory of 18-year-old Tiree Nuttall.

The event was organised by Michele Chidlow, Lynsey Beeson, Jade Tanswell and Megan Moye, who cared for Tiree before she died in July following years of suffering from epilepsy, along with her parents Janet and Ron.

Trowbridge RFU first team manager Nobby Knight also helped organise the event with Mr and Mrs Nuttall, of Greenway Gardens, Trowbridge.

Almost £4,000 was raised by the Christmas karaoke and disco night, which included an auction and raffle, for Epilepsy Action, Epilepsy Awareness and Naomi House and Jacksplace Hospice, where Tiree was cared for throughout her illness.

The club also held fundraising events during the day and the team wore pink socks, which was Tiree’s favourite colour, for their South West 1 East league match victory against Bletchley.

Mrs Nuttall said: “It was a wonderful day and we were just blown away by the generosity of everyone.

“We think we have raised nearly £4,000, which is far more than we ever expected to make.

“We have had lots of messages about what a great evening it was and people saying that we have to do it again. It really did surpass our expectations, as we were hoping to raise around £2,000, so to almost double that is incredible.

“She was a special lady and that is shown by the support we have had from friends, family and people in the community during this difficult time.

“She loved parties and pink was her favourite colour, so she would have loved the disco.
“It brought a lump to my throat seeing the players wearing pink socks and everyone at the club has been so fantastic.

“I didn’t know many of the people at the club before this, but now I class them all as friends.”

Auction prizes sold on the night included a signed Manchester United football, a rugby boot signed by Jonah Lomu, a signed England rugby team shirt, which went for £200, and a cricket bat signed by international cricketers.

Mr Knight, whose wife went to school with Mrs Nuttall, said: “The event went absolutely brilliantly and we raised a lot more money than we had hoped.

“It was great that the boys played well and won as well. It was just a fantastic day all round.”
