TROWBRIDGE Fire Station is advising motorists to pay attention to flood signage, after rescuing a man who had attempted to drive along Holt Road in Staverton yesterday.

Firefighters were called out to the incident just after 6pm on Thursday, after the man and his car had become stranded while trying to drive through the flood water.

A pump engine and the special water unit from Trowbridge attended and firefighters helped get the man to safety with a splash suit, before recovering the vehicle.

There were also two other vehicles that had become stuck along the same stretch of road, but their owners had pushed them out already by the time the fire crew arrived.

Firefighter Nick Hateley said: “There were three cars in total that had got stuck by trying to drive through the flood water, but two had already pushed their vehicles out.

“We had to rescue the third driver and we would advise motorists to take note of the flood warning signs. Do not drive into any flood water as it better to be safe than sorry.

“People should be vigilant of any flood signs, especially if they have children, which one of the drivers in this incident did.”

Holt Road is currently closed to motorists due to high waters levels and police are advising motorists to avoid the route.
