A 28-year-old Trowbridge man was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries when his car rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof.
The driver of the BMW lost control coming off the roundabout while driving up the hill on Station Road, Westbury at 10.30am on Friday, January 9.
The car mounted a pavement, collided with two concrete posts and rolled down the steep embankment, where it landed on its roof on Station Approach.
Inspector Alan Webb said: “The driver said he had lost grip to the rear of the vehicle while going over a manhole cover and that this had caused the skid.
“Losing control in these circumstances may be a momentary lapse in concentration or a speed that exceeds the grip available on the road at that time or an overreaction to a skid or slide.
“This incident would have been very much more serious if someone had been on the footpaths or the road when the incident occurred.”
Police are taking no further action.
