A teenager from Trowbridge has become the face of the 2015 Rugby World Cup after she appeared in a Visit England advert promoting the tournament.

Megan Tate, a 14-year-old player for Bath Rugby Ladies U15s team, applied to be in the video after hearing from team mates about the chance to star in the advert, which was aired for the first time on television on Friday.

She is featured under the rugby posts at Westbury Rugby Club with the White Horse in the background, speaking the words of the iconic English hymn Jerusalem while the music plays.

The pupil at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon said: “I entered because it would be a good experience and I thought it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I felt nervous at first when I went for the auditions in September but then I got it and we filmed in October.

“I was really pleased when I found out I had got the part and I was over the moon.

“My friends were really proud and happy for me.”

Megan, who lives in Hilperton, Trowbridge, has being playing rugby since the age of seven having grown-up in a family of rugby enthusiasts including dad Stuart, mum Helen and 16-year-old brother Daniel.

Mrs Tate, a deputy head teacher at The Mead Community Primary in Trowbridge, said: “When we found out she had the part we were very excited and proud. Both my family and my husband’s family love rugby and Megan has a real passion for the sport.

“Initially it was peculiar seeing her face on the website and in the video but I’m just glad she’s had her moment.”
