TROWBRIDGE hairdresser Nigel Evans returned to the same spot where he photographed the last solar eclipse in 1999 to watch the partial solar eclipse again today.

Mr Evans, who owns Nigel’s Hair Design in Duke Street, went to the end of the road, which joins with Church Street, to view the moon directly blocking the sight of the sun 16 years after the last solar eclipse.

Despite the overcast weather conditions, Mr Evans and many others throughout Wiltshire took to the streets to view the rare phenomenon, with the next partial eclipse not due to occur until 2026.

A solar eclipse can only happen at new moon, when the moon directly blocks sight of the sun from certain places in the world. The UK will not see another total eclipse until 2090.

Mr Evans said: “I have been here for 20 years and it was nice to see it again from the same exact spot as I did when we had the last solar eclipse.

“It was quite different 16 years ago as it went a lot darker when it happened, but this one felt more like a cloudy haze. Although the weather wasn’t ideal, it was still great to see.”
