SCHOOLCHILDREN from across Trowbridge have explored the Easter story through an interactive display about the events leading up to Easter at St James’ Church this week.

The church, which has run the Easter Experience for five years, was visited by pupils from Newtown Community Primary School, Walwayne Court School, Bellefield Primary School, Paxcroft Primary School and Larkrise Special School at the beginning of the week.

Classes from each of the schools were able to explore and discuss the displays, even re-enacting the Last Supper by breaking bread and sharing wine, which was substituted for Ribena.

The six tableaus, which walk visitors through the events leading up to the resurrection of Christ, were then put on display for the public to see on Thursday and Friday.

Reverend Rob Thomas said: “What we have done is tell the Easter story in six tableaus and then a class of children from a local school has come in and split into five groups, before spending 10 minutes at each one.

“This is the fifth year we have done it and it helps the children to understand it by bringing it to life. Sometimes they have done some classroom work on the story beforehand, but the display makes it real for them in a way they wouldn’t otherwise get.”
