TROWBRIDGE outdoor market has increased footfall in the area by 300 per cent since it opened two years ago.

According to a survey carried out, more people are coming to Fore Street to see what the stalls have on offer, including fruit and vegetables, home items and fairtrade goods every Wednesday.

Philip Whitehead, Wiltshire Council cabinet member responsible for markets, said it is great news for the town.

The market also celebrated its second anniversary this week and there was cake for everyone to enjoy. Trowbridge Town Team chairman David Baker is confident it will continue to go from strength to strength.

From this month, the whole of the outdoor Wednesday market will be operated by Wiltshire Council in partnership with the Town Team.

Mr Baker said: "The market has proved to be a great success over the past two years and there is always a buzz in Fore Street on a Wednesday.

“The new partnership with the Trowbridge Town Team and Wiltshire Council is already proving to be a success with new stallholders joining us in the near future."

Mayor Glyn Bridges added: “It is certainly an asset for Trowbridge shoppers – it is a lively and colourful enhancement to the town centre on a Wednesday, increasing the footfall which can only benefit existing traders.”
