A FLOATING hotel has become the 500th boat to enter the dry docks in Semington for a routine underwater inspection.
Couple David and Karen Binney launched the 5* canal hotel boat The Wessex Rose two years ago, which offers cruises and accommodation along the Kennet & Avon and River Thames.
The canal boat travelled to the docks in Semington, owned by Ian and Liz Williamson, for a five day check over.
Mrs Binney said: “It’s quite a delicate operation manoeuvring the Wessex Rose into the dry dock but once in, and the dock pumped out, it really is magnificent. With the docks being covered and enclosed it’s a real all weather facility that allows us to carry out the routine maintenance boat during our off-season without disrupting our summer schedule.”
It is the second time the boat has used the facility to ensure below the waterline it is in tiptop condition.
Mr and Mrs Williamson bought the derelict dry dock and cottage in 2011 have put all their efforts into renovating it and re-opening it as one of only three wide Broadbeam Dry Docks between Reading and Bristol.
Mr Williamson added: “We are thrilled to receive such a prestigious boat at what is a landmark in the development of our business.”
