MORE than 150 motorcyclists took to the roads to show their support for the annual toy run from Trowbridge to Bristol Children’s Hospital this year to brighten the day of children on the wards.

The event, now in its 17th year, is held in memory of Nick Wynne, who regularly organised a charity bike run before he died in a motorbike accident outside the Kings Arms pub in Hilperton in 2002.

Another huge turnout for this year’s event, which took place on Sunday (April 12), saw 152 bikers, guided by marshalls, ride in convoy from the Kings Arms to deliver hundreds of pounds worth of toys to the hospital.

Organisers Mike and Megan Hayward said they were delighted with the continued support for the event, which concluded with an afternoon of live music and food at the pub.

Mrs Hayward said: “It was a really good day and we had a great turnout. I counted 152 bikes and everyone arrived at the hospital safely and then got back to the pub for lots of drink and merriment.

“We had a huge crate full of lots of toys, which was remarkable, and the staff at the hospital were absolutely over the moon with the donations.

“We even had a bike group come from the north west of England to take part in this year’s ride after they found out about it through Facebook, which just goes to show how much great support we get when we hold the toy run.

“I want to say a big thank you to Sainsbury’s in Trowbridge, which donated a trolley full of toys, and the Mucky Dogs for marshalling once again this year.”

The afternoon event at the pub included a performance from local rock band Stoned-F, while there was also a bouncy castle and food on offer for the bikers and members of the public to enjoy.

Mrs Hayward added: “We are planning on making it bigger and better than ever next year and hopefully we will be able to have the motorbike stunt shows back in the evening.

“It is fantastic that after all these years we still get so much support from the local community and everyone had a fantastic time once we got back to the pub, with some great live music.”
