THE Grove Primary School’s second annual scarecrow trail attracted hundreds of visitors this year, with the event taking place over Saturday and Sunday for the first time.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural trail, the Parents and Teachers of Grove School (P.O.T.S) decided to make the event even bigger this year by holding it over two days.

Scarecrows were themed around famous Ps and included Paris, children’s characters Pippi Longstocking and Pingu, as well as Plop – the baby owl from The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark book.

The trail featured 46 scarecrows in total, which were made by children, parents and teachers from the school and people in the local community, and raised over £1,200 for the school funds.

Teacher Kathryn Curtis, who helped organise the event with chair of P.O.T.S Laura Radwell, said: “It was a brilliant weekend and the turnout was fantastic, considering it was the first time we had held it over two days.

“Last year was a big success and this year we sold over 150 programmes and raised over £1,200, which is fantastic. We had perfect weather for it and hundreds of families came out over the weekend.

“Each class at the school created a scarecrow and then we asked parents and people in the community to get involved and there were some great entries.

“The children and adults who came along absolutely loved the event and it was especially nice for the Year 6 pupils, who had recently finished their SATs. It was just a really lovely atmosphere and there was a real buzz.”

The money raised by the event will be used to improve the school’s playground and refresh the markings. The school is now preparing for its summer fete, which will take place on June 19.
