CANAL boat users docking at Hilperton Marina will now be able to find out exactly what Trowbridge has to offer, after the Friends of Trowbridge Information Centre unveiled a new information board.

The Friends designed the information board, which was created by Unique Signs & Graphics in Riverway Industrial Estate, after it was suggested that there was a lack of information for canal users visiting the town.

Mayor of Trowbridge Roger Andrews joined the Friends and members of the Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce to unveil the new information board last Thursday.

Cllr Andrews said: “The canal brings tourists to towns like Trowbridge, where a brisk walk will take you past the nearest supermarket to replenish on board food stocks, past our hospital, which I hope no visitor will ever need, and on into our thriving town of shops.

“It is a great pleasure to be asked to play a part in promoting the attractions that we have in our town. This information board has been funded by the Friends of the Tourist Information Centre, so a big thank you to them.

“It specifically guides visitors, arriving here by the canal, into Trowbridge to see what the town has to offer and it gives me great pleasure to let it see the light of day.”

The information board, which is located in Hammond Way, includes information on the cinema and restaurants at St Stephen’s Place, plus details about shopping, Trowbridge Museum and much more.

Roger Newman, treasurer for the Friends, said: “It all came about when someone who told me he was on holiday on a boat along the Kennet and Avon Canal said there was no information about how to get into Trowbridge.

“Now people coming off the boat at Hilperton will be able to see the new information board and find out what Trowbridge has to offer, including details on the cinema and shopping facilities, as well as how to get into the centre of town.”
