EMPLOYEES from the McDonald’s restaurant in Trowbridge have joined forces with Trowbridge Town Council Leader Bob Brice to help tackle litter hot spots near Wiltshire Drive.

The 19-strong team, which included McDonald’s Business manager Damion Francis, staff from the fast food chain’s local branch and members of the local Girl Guides, collected 14 bags of rubbish recently with their litter pickers.

The group looked to encourage the local community to take more responsibility for keeping the town litter-free and to take pride in the local environment.

Volunteers cracked down on litter around the Wiltshire Drive area and also cleared litter from an abandoned car park - an area that serves as a through-route to a day nursery.

Mr Francis said: “It was great to see everyone come together to help tackle litter in the areas surrounding our Trowbridge restaurant. I’d like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work and for giving up their time to come along and help out.

“Following the success of our litter event last year and the great support we received from the local community and Councillor Bob Brice, we are increasing our big litter events to three this year.”

Aside from larger litter events such as these, McDonald’s restaurants patrol the streets at least three times a day to collect all litter that has been discarded, regardless of its origin.

Trowbridge Town Council Leader Bob Brice added: “McDonald’s has shown a real commitment to tackling the problem of litter, both through their own business practices and through their work with local communities groups like the Girl Guides.

“I am delighted to have come along and supported McDonald’s for this event and want to say thank you to everyone for joining in and helping to improve the local Trowbridge area.”
