HUNDREDS of villagers turned out for the annual North Bradley Scarecrow Trail over the weekend, with the event raising the remaining funds for the village school’s outdoor classroom.

Organised by The Friends of North Bradley School, the scarecrow trail took place over Saturday and Sunday (June 27 and 28) and included 50 scarecrows made by children, parents and villagers inspired by the theme of rock and pop groups.

The trail was opened by Trowbridge Carnival Princess Kaitlyn Maddocks and Butterfly Queen Olivia Bygraves, who is a pupil of the school, and included live music, barbecue and a bar.

There were also stalls, activities and a bake off cake competition at the school, with the money raised by the event helping The Friends reach their target of £7,500 for the outdoor classroom.

Jackie Stocker, co-chair for The Friends of North Bradley School, said: “It was a cracking weekend and we must have had hundreds of people over the two days. We were blown away by the support.

“We really wanted to go all out this year and we believe the profit from the event is in the region of £3,000, which should enable us to reach our target of £7,500 for the outdoor classroom.

“It was themed around pop and rock groups and there were some fantastic entries from children and villagers. Last year’s event raised around £1,800 so we have almost doubled that.

“We also had an evening event this year with live music and that was absolutely packed, so the support we have had from the local community has been fantastic.”

Money from the scarecrow trail will be added to the funds raised by The Friends’ Winter Wonderland event, which was held at the end of last year, to achieve the outdoor classroom target.

Mrs Stocker, who organised the event along with Wendy Wood and The Friends team, added: “We would also like to thank everyone who came along and supported us, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and to all who helped to make this our best trail to date.”
