NEW lights are now helping to make Trowbridge Town Park a safer and more welcoming environment, after being installed following a grant from Trowbridge Area Board.

Following a consultation undertaken by Wiltshire Council, Trowbridge Town Council and other agencies, a report showed that the main concern in Trowbridge Town Park was a perceived fear of Anti-Social Behaviour - primarily due to bad lighting.

The work to improve and install new lights has been gradually undertaken over the two years of the town council owning the park, with funding from multiple different sources.

The Friends of Trowbridge Park decided to help the council with an application to the area board in order to complete a section of lighting near St Stephen’s Place, with LED lights, columns and uplighters among the new additions.

Chair of The Friends Sharl Adabashi said: “Friends of Trowbridge Park had received concerns from the public plus our members about the poor level of lighting and “dark corners” which were worrying all.

“The Friends decided to help the town council with an application to the area board in order to complete a section of lighting close to St Stephen’s Place outlets, making this area of the park more highly illuminated and so therefore more visibly accessible to the public.

“We would like to thank Trowbridge Area Board for the grant of £5,000 which has enabled this to happen thus making the Park a more welcoming and safer environment during the hours of darkness.

“We will continue to work with the town council on ensuring the town park is a destination to be proud of in the County Town.”
