PUPILS at John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge will be hosting a group of 20 students and teachers from partner schools across Europe in October as part of a new Erasmus project.

The Erasmus+ project is the European Commission’s International Programme for education, training, youth and sport, offering opportunities for students in Europe to travel between countries.

As part of the project, John of Gaunt has been paired with five other schools in Germany, Italy, Martinique, Portugal and Turkey and youngsters from all six schools will work together on multimedia projects comparing school life in each country over the next three years.

Pupils will also be able to visit partner schools to work directly with the other students involved in the project to collaboratively produce a fully student-led film, The Ideal European School.

Sarah Morgan, Spanish and French teacher at John of Gaunt and Erasmus+ co-ordinator, said: “The first of these overseas trip took place in March this year when four year 9 students, accompanied by two teachers, visited Hagenow in Germany.

“The students had the opportunity to learn how to use professional filming equipment, to write a script and produce backing tracks.

“Once back in Trowbridge, they taught the rest of the group these skills while filming the first part of the collaborative film titled, The Beauty of My Territory.

“As a school, we believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for our students to sample school life in another country and to have the opportunity to work alongside students of different nationalities, opening their eyes to the range of possibilities available to them in the future.”

In October, John of Gaunt School will be hosting a group of 20 students and teachers from these partner schools, introducing them to life in Britain and showing off what Wiltshire has to offer.
