FAMILIES came out in force to support the annual Seymour Community Hub fun day on Saturday, with children making the most of the games and activities on offer.

The free event, which took place in Charles Street, is aimed at providing an opportunity for residents living in the Seymour area of Trowbridge to come together and find out more about what the Seymour Community Hub does.

It is organised by the Seymour Community Association and this year’s event saw firefighters bring one of their fire engines along for children to explore, while the police also showed off one of their vehicles.

The event also included games such as whack a rat and hook a duck, while there were prize raffles for adults and children, with the money raised going towards children cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Lesley Horne, treasurer of the Seymour Community Association, said: “It was a brilliant event and all the children really enjoyed it. The fire service were fantastic and brought along one of their engines, which the kids loved.

“Our local PCSO also came along to the event and brought a police car for the children to look at and they found that fascinating. There were probably around 20 children in total at the event.

“We also had lots of free games for them to enjoy, with prizes for the winners. There was also a raffle for the children and one for the adults, with the money raised from that going to a charity chosen by the children, which ended up being CLIC Sargent.

“The raffles raised just over £70, which is fantastic. We hold the community fun day every year and it is usually in the first week of the school summer holidays. It is a great way to bring the community together and let people know what the hub does.”

The event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Trowbridge Linda Self, who opened the event, and she said: “It was a really good day and everyone was very welcoming. All the volunteers put a lot of hard work into it and hopefully more people will support the hub.”
