ACTIVE Trowbridge capitalised on the medieval spirit of the Magna Carta anniversary celebrations to provide a Medieval Fun Day for children at The Grove Primary School last Wednesday (July 29).

More than 100 children visited the school in Trowbridge for the day of medieval activities, which followed on from the Medieval Play Day organised by Active Trowbridge and Trowbridge Town Council in the park the weekend before.

Youngsters were able to chuck sponges at the Active Trowbridge coaches in the stocks, while they were invited to dress up in medieval costumes and take part in a number of different games.

The event was part of the fun days and soccer schools run by Active Trowbridge for children during the summer holidays, with more activities taking place until August 28.

Lee Mounty, sports and leisure team leader, said: “We run the holiday camp throughout the school holidays and thought this would be a good follow on from the Magna Carta events.

“We wanted to give the children something extra and there were plenty of activities for them to enjoy, including throwing sponges at the coaches in medieval stocks and gladiator jousting.

“The children were also able to come along in fancy dress. It was very successful and we usually aim to get around 50 youngsters for our fund days, but this event attracted over a 100.”
