AS PART of Love Parks Week, the Friends of Southwick Country Park and Wiltshire Council’s Countryside Team held another successful Bugs and Butterflies day for families. Children made peg butterflies and butterfly mobiles to take home, learned from Ian Bushell all about stick insects, and hunted for a variety of bugs and spiders.
After lunch a butterfly walk was led by Sarah from Butterfly Conservation, and it found 12 species among the hedges and glades in the Country Park, including the red admiral, speckled wood, comma, meadow brown, small skipper, peacock, tortoiseshell, and holly blue; not to mention the very colourful ‘peg butterflies’ that flew home with the children.
