STUDENTS at St Augustine’s Catholic College were jumping for joy as they celebrated their A Level results today, with the school achieving more that 30 per cent of grades at A*-A.

The Trowbridge school was flooded with nervous youngsters from 8am, as students discovered whether they had achieved the grades they needed to take up their place at university.

Headteacher Joe Alsop was thrilled with the results, which saw 33.6 per cent A*-A grades and 64.5 per cent grades at A*-B and 90.2 per cent grades at A*-C.

“I am delighted that the students can celebrate their examination results which are truly well deserved,” said Mr Alsop. “They worked hard to achieve at this standard and should be very proud of not only their own successes but those of their friends too.

“Collectively the results are superb with 33.6 % of grades achieved at A*/A, 64.5% at grades A*-B and 90.2% at grades A*-C.

“Fourteen students, which is over 15.5% of the year, achieved straight A*/A grades in three or more subjects and they along with the vast majority of students accessed their first choice university places including Cambridge.

“These results and the education that they have received at St Augustine’s has created a strong foundation from which they can continue to grow and flourish in whichever career path they choose to take. I wish them every success in the future.”

Top performers included Tabitha Burgess, who achieved two A*s and an A and is off to Cambridge University to study French and Spanish, and Steph Keogh, who got three As and is going to study Medicine at Birmingham University.

Steph, 18, said: “I didn’t sleep at all last night, I was just too nervous. I am over the moon with my results and it is a relief to finally have it all out of the way. I am really looking forward to university.”

Sian Wilcox, who got one A and two Bs and is going to study Pharmacology at Manchester University, was also celebrating and said: “I was too scared to go online this morning, so I just waited to find out when I got to school.

“I got off to sleep okay last night, but then I kept waking up, first at 5am then at 6am and then I just decided to get up. I didn’t think I had done as well as I have and it is a massive relief.”

Anna Starosolsky achieved two A*s in French and English Literature and an A in Art and Design, while Phoebe Van Huizen secured two A*s in English Language and Literature and Art and Design and an A in Media Studies.

“I was really surprised and very happy as I was really unsure about how well I had done,” said Anna, who is going off to University College London. “I’ve done better than I predicted and it’s really exciting.”

Phoebe, who is doing a foundation course next year at Wiltshire College before going to university, said: “It’s a huge relief and all the stress is now gone. I’m going on holiday tomorrow to Florida, so now I can relax and enjoy myself.”
