NERVOUS anticipation quickly turned into relief and jubilation as students at John of Gaunt School celebrated their A Level results today, with the school achieving an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.

Students that performed exceptionally well included Leigh Carnohan, who secured the A* and two As he needed to read physics at Warwick University, and Kyle Chown, who achieved two As and a B and will be going to Cardiff University to study maths.

Results for BTEC Level 3 qualifications were also outstanding with 69 per cent of results at Distinction* and Distinction level.

Achieving the top Distinction* grades in vocational BTEC courses were Harvey Hale (Sport), Hannah Gill (ICT & Business), Sophie Verrier (ICT & Business), Phoebe Huntley (ICT & Business) and Sarah Logue (ICT & Business).

Mike Gunston, Headteacher at John of Gaunt in Trowbridge, said: “Our students have performed fantastically again this year and we are all extremely proud of them.

“It's wonderful to know that the vast majority of our students have gained access to their first choice universities or onto high quality apprenticeships.

“Our Sixth Form has a strong track record of academic success and this year’s group have certainly continued that trend. We wish everyone our best wishes and every success in their next steps.”

Among the best performers at John of Gaunt was Flora Hervin, who achieved As in maths and physics and a B in further maths and will now go off to study physics at Warwick University.

Flora said: “I checked online beforehand so I knew I got my place, but I didn’t sleep at all well last night. Although my grades were slightly lower than my offer, I got my place and I’m delighted.”

Another high achiever was May Mouque, who achieved A* in law, A in English literature and B in Religious Education, and will now read law at Sheffield University in September.

“I was really nervous in the lead up to results day and I really wasn’t expecting to get A* in law, so I’m very happy and can’t wait to start university,” said May, who lives in Trowbridge.

Zak Knight also performed well, securing A in maths and Bs in further maths and computing, and is now preparing to go to his first choice university in Cardiff to study maths in September.

He said: “I checked online before I got to school, so I knew I had got my place. I wasn’t too worried in the lead up and I slept alright, but I’m glad it’s all over with now.”

Macauley Curtis, who achieved an A in maths and two Bs in physics and further maths, is going to Exeter University to study physics and said: “My first choice was Bath, but I’m delighted to get into Exeter.

“I only got back from a five-hour trip from Snowdon in Wales last night, so I’m feeling pretty tired and I don’t think it has all quite sunk in yet.”
