TROWBRIDGE’S St Augustine’s Catholic College had an impressive GCSE results day as 78 per cent of students achieved five A*-C, including English and Maths.

A total of 33 students, more than 22 per cent of the year group, attained eight of more GCSEs graded A*-A at the school on Wingfield Road.

In addition to this, 85 per cent of students made expected or better than expected progress in English and 92 per cent made expected or better than expected progress in Maths.

Headteacher Joe Alsop said: “Once again we are delighted with this year’s superb GCSE exam results.

“It was no surprise that the examination results were so strong because the students displayed a mature work ethic for the duration of their studies and therefore thoroughly deserved to do so well.

“All our students have achieved the grades that they needed to ensure their next steps. This is a great achievement and underlines how determined to succeed this year group was.

“These results, combined with the outstanding A Level results last week, will keep us amongst the highest performing schools in the country and highlight that the students at St Augustine’s have an excellent work ethic and are ready to take their place in the world of work or further study.

“I am grateful to the staff who have worked in partnership with supportive parents to achieve these truly outstanding results.”

Siobhan Tinnion, who achieved two A*s, six As and two Bs, said: “I did really well and it couldn’t have been better than what I thought I would get.”

Her mum, Marianne, added: “I am so proud because Siobhan has worked so hard and it is definitely nice to see so many people get their results.”

Eirian Williams, who achieved ten A*s and an A in Further Maths, said: “I am very happy and quite surprised because it was difficult work but now it’s over.

“I’m now going onto sixth form and I am trying to do a variety of subjects because I’m not quite sure what I want to do afterwards yet.

“My parents are really thrilled about them and so I’ll go home and celebrate.”

Tim Otto, who achieved seven A*s, four As and a B, said: “I thought I would do okay in the results but with these I’m really pleased with them. I thought the GCSE would be hard but I found them alright. I rang my mum to tell her and she was just so funny and happy.”
