STUDENTS at Clarendon Academy in Trowbridge were full of jubilation when picking up their GCSE results – with one creating history by achieving A*s across the board.

Executive principal Mark Stenton said he was again pleased with the 50 per cent figure of students achieving five A*-C grades in English and Maths.

He added: “Many students have exceptional performances with over twenty averaging A*-A across every subject. There has been an astonishing 47 per cent rise in the number of top grades.

“Results also show record performances in key academic subjects such as history, French and the sciences. Progress is very good, with almost 70 per cent of grades at A*-C.

“There are many wonderful personal achievement stories for students of all abilities and talents, and I am immensely proud of these young people and the teachers and support staff who work tirelessly for the academy. Well done to the Class of 2015.”

Hannan El-Amriti achieved A*’s in all 10 subjects – a first in the school’s history but is currently on holiday so will have to wait until she gets back to get her hands on the elusive envelope of results.

Among the other high achievers was Briony Richards, 16, whose grades were all A* or A – something which made her tearful as she opened her results.

“I can’t believe it. They were subjects that I thought I would do ok in but not like this.

“I plan on studying A-levels in French, Spanish, psychology and philosophy which I then hope will get me a place at Oxford. I was so scared to open them but they were worth the wait.”

Another pupil who was overwhelmed by his results was Oli Harrison who bagged seven A*s and three As.

He said: “I did really well. It is way better than I could have ever expected but I always thought I would do all right.

"It has been such a long wait and I’ve got more nervous as time went on but at least the wait is over.”

Oli hopes to go on to study politics at university.
