ACTIVE Trowbridge has launched a new half term club to encourage more girls to get into sport.

Camp Fusion, to be held on February 16-17 at John of Gaunt School, will combine inflatable games with gymnastics, dance and netball to show more youngsters that physical activity can be fun.

Jasmine Todd, community sports coach, said: “We are trying to push towards a camp which is based at girls but we also welcome boys. We’ve had the soccer session and the fun days and we wondered what were we missing. Then we thought we need to get more girls into sports and so we thought of sports they can relate to.

“We got the idea from Nike’s This Girl Can campaign and we wanted to offer them something that they might not be able to take up in school. It might also encourage them to take part in other club sessions which we are also offering throughout other half terms in different sports.”

Active Trowbridge is running the first-time camp off the back of its successful afterschool clubs including football frenzy, ability counts and extreme Trowbridge already taking place at John of Gaunt during term time.

Hayley Bell, leisure services manager, added that the camp is the perfect opportunity for children to stay fit but also an affordable alternative to taking time off work for parents.

Camp Fusion costs £12 per child, per day in advance or £14 on the day. It starts at 8.30am-3pm for children aged eight to 12.
