AFTER 10 years of unsuccessful attempts to tick it off her bucket list, one Trowbridge mum-of-two will finally be able to say she has completed the London Marathon this weekend.

Clare Farquharson, of Paxcroft Mead, has tried to get a place at the nationally-coveted event for years but now at the age of 42, she’s taking the plunge to complete the 26.2 mile distance on Sunday.

“I have done some half marathons but doing the London Marathon has always been an ambition of mine so I was a bit shocked when I got the confirmation through,” she said.

“I’m a full-time working mum so I have to force myself really to get out and run and I’ve started setting myself targets with distances. My furthest distance is 20 miles and I’ve been building up to that by following a plan. I’m not going to do it in amazing timing but I know I will finish and it will be a personal challenge.”

Mrs Farquharson, who works at Lloyds Pharmacy, will be putting her best foot forward for Trowbridge-based charity Alzheimer’s Support as her father-in-law attends their day club in Mill Street.

She added: “He’s been going along for five or six months now and he does enjoy it and one of the other things it does is allow my mother-in-law to have a break.

“Dementia is a very hard thing to watch, not just for him but also for his loved ones who day by day are losing the person they know and recognise, to this cruel illness.

“I thought I would run and raise money for Alzheimer’s Support because they are a local charity and I have been able to see the difference they have made. I’ve done many fundraisers before but I wanted to do something more personal.”
