PREPARATIONS are underway for this year’s Keevil Scarecrow Trail which organisers hope will beat last year’s record turnout.

The trail was previously designed around the theme of heroes and villains, with local artists Joanna May and Eleanor O’Brien among those who created the 40 scarecrows placed around the village.

This year, visitors will have the tough task of guessing childhood TV favourites as local resident and presenter of BBC’s antiques show Flog It! Paul Martin opens the event once again.

Charlotte Martin, Paul’s wife and one of the organisers of the village event, said: “From the likes of Bill and Ben to what is on our television screens now, childhood TV favourites is something that can be quite interesting for everyone to get involved in.

“Last year was a wonderful weekend and we have built up the event over the last two years and we have managed to double the numbers which has been amazing and so hopefully we can continue to grow.

“It is just nice to learn every year and find out what people want and make it a day out rather than coming out just for the trail.”

As an added bonus to this year’s trail, which takes place on May 14-15, visitors will be able to browse more craft stalls as well as finding out about the work of the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who will have a stand on the day.

There will also be a BBQ, bar, tea and cakes, sweet shop, tombola, children’s games and raffle as well as a nature trail for children.

The annual scarecrow trail hopes to raise funds for Keevil CofE Primary School and last year, the event raised £7,000 for the school and Wiltshire Young Carers.

The winner of the trail this year will receive £100 cash.
